One word. Cinnamon Roll. Okay, that was two words. This amazing pastry would make Cinnabon so sad. As many guests report on other websites, you come to Cholla Bay to get a Cinnamon Roll and hang out at JJ’s afterwords. No idea what Voodoo Magic they are doing behind that kitchen door at Xochitl’s. This is a two person chunk of delightful goodness. I would honestly drink the sauce that completely covers this morsel. “Would you like a Mimosa Senor?” No, just bring me a rocks glass of this goo.
Xochitl’s Cholla Cafe is located in Cholla Bay. Cholla Bay is at the end of a dirt road on the Western side of Puerto Penasco. Don’t be nervous driving there and just embrace what Rocky Point is all about. We are still a fishing village with a lot of condominiums across Sandy Beach. What I would say, once you hit the stop sign for Wrecked at Reef and Mare Blu – keep driving. Just follow the dust and the minute you see a Cholla Bay sign, stop. Probably the most colorful eatery before you hit JJ’s. If you pass Mr. Fish Taco (review coming) flip around.
So, lets discuss pastries. They have amazing pastries. The frosting was amazing. The cakes were amazing. We are not being paid for this review by the way. The Carrot Cake was so good. The Banana Cake was I would say, doubly delicious. Keep them in the refrigerator and eat with a good Netflix series. Once more – Voodoo Magic behind those doors.
The chips and salsa were probably one of the best in Rocky Point. Homemade tortilla chips with a slightly spicy salsa. We asked for refills on both. Lunch. They are famous for the Tortilla Soup. It did not disappoint. We brought a bowl home to eat. We also ordered the Mexican Combination Plate. One of their most favorite combos. I had a Chile Rellano, a Taco Dorado and an Enchilada. Served with rice and beans. The most wonderful beans.
Breakfast is a Rocky Point favorite. They have the usual American dishes like pancakes, eggs, bacon…but why would you want that when there are so many Mexican dishes. Chiles Rellenos are the talk of the town. The Omelettes, served with home fries and toast are great. They offer so many combinations of ingredients. Ham, Bacon, Chorizo, Onions, Green Chiles. The list goes on. There are breakfast sandwich favorites as well. To top it off – the menu is huge. Huevos Rancheros which was wonderful. Chorizo and eggs. The taste was great. Over the course of six days, we tried everything on the menu. It was amazing.
