Pollo Lucas is the best place to get their an amazing wood grilled chicken in all of Rocky Point. We have strayed and hit many others. Last month we decided, it is only Pollo Lucas from now on. I am not dissing the other local places, but this chicken is just amazing . It is succulent charcoal‑grilled chicken marinated with citrus, chiles and spices. Juicy and fragrant, it’s tender enough to tear apart with just a fork. Expect a wait when you order. We went almost weekly for two months and found the best time to get there is either 11:15AM or after 2PM
The basic chicken comes with salsa, pickled onions, shredded cabbage and either corn or flour tortillas. Extras are refried beans and Spanish rice. The beans are amazing and we will buy extra containers for breakfast, lunch or dinner at our house. It is great to see so many locals frequent the place.
You can buy 1/2 a chicken or a whole chicken. All of the Puerto Penasco resort rooms have a refrigerator, so take advantage of the great value of the chicken and grab an extra one for the following day. We have found they last at least three days before drying out.
There is not alcohol service at Pollo Lucas but you are free to bring your own. Cans are preferred by the establishment. This, as many local restaurants in Puerto Penasco is cash only. USD or Pesos, it all works.
Make sure you tell the window and car washers that are in the parking lot if you want their service. If not, you will get service and end up paying for it.
This is a family friendly restaurant. Seating is only outside and it can get hot and humid during July-September. Pets are allowed and you will usually see the stray cat looking for a bite. I think there is a permanent cat that just wanders looking for scraps. We usually just order to go and are out of there within 20 minutes. Bring your cooler of beer if you want to eat and drink. They serve water and sodas for a $1. We have tried several other chicken places around Rocky Point over the years, but always come back to Pollo Lucas. Definitely a stop on your culinary journey around the town.
