Nestled on Sandy Beach within the Esmeralda Beach Resort at Blvd Paseo de la Duna, Diego’s Tiki Bar is easy to find. Drive past Esmeralda, and when you see Nick’s Irish Pub, take a left.

Drive past the first guard gate, and parking will be on the left.

Diego’s brings tropical décor and a refreshing sea breeze to Puerto Peñasco’s beachfront scene. You can even take your drink down to the couches on the sand to relax and watch the waves—or settle in for one of the area’s most spectacular sunsets over the Sea of Cortez.

This 100% open-air bar and restaurant sits right on Sandy Beach, offering panoramic views and a laid-back, Hawaiian-inspired design. The drink menu is extensive, from classics like piña coladas and margaritas to creative craft cocktails. They’ve clearly put a lot of thought into the selection, and there’s even a range of non-alcoholic options for designated drivers or kids who want a fun mocktail.

On weekends, live music plays from the afternoon into the evening, creating a festive yet relaxing soundtrack to your meal. Diego’s is also pet-friendly—dogs on leashes are welcome at the outdoor tables.

We haven’t tried breakfast yet (it’s on our list), but we did enjoy several dishes worth noting. The Guacamole Platter with Ribeye Chicharrón was large and satisfying, though we added hot sauce and salt for extra kick. The fried calamari was very good, paired with tasty sauces. The chicken wings were small (for some reason in Rocky Point, all places seem to serve 6–8 wings per order). The Carlos V Jumbo Shrimp—bacon-wrapped, cheese-stuffed, and served with a wonderful sauce—was a highlight.

For mains, the Chicken Parmesan was a favorite, just as our waiter promised. The Spaghetti Bolognese could easily have come from a fine dining Italian restaurant. With all pasta entrées, you can add shrimp, chicken, or arrachera (carne asada) for extra protein.

One thing to note—unlike most local eateries in Rocky Point, Diego’s only accepts credit cards, not cash.
